The 10 Rockefeller Habits
šŸ’”

For 15 years, Verne Harnish chaired Entrepreneurs Organizations ā€œBirthing of Giantsā€ top program for CEOā€™s held on the campus of MIT. He still teaches in that program today and I have become quite enamored with this model as I work with a number of organizations in helping them grow and scale. There is simplicity and immense power as you go over these habits.

  1. The executive team is healthy and aligned.

  2. Everyone is aligned with the #1 thing that needs to be accomplished this quarter to move the company forward.

  3. Communication rhythm is established and information moves through the organization quickly.

  4. Every facet of the organization has a person assigned with accountability for ensuring goals are met.

  5. Ongoing employee input is collected to identify obstacles and opportunities.

  6. Reporting and analysis of customer feedback data is as frequent and accurate as financial data.

  7. Core values and purpose are ā€œaliveā€ in the organization.

  8. Employees can articulate the key components of the companyā€™s strategy accurately.

  9. All employees can answer quantitatively whether they had a good day or week.

  10. The company's plans and performance are visible to everyone.

You are probably nodding your head at this point, likeā€¦yeah, this all makes complete sense. EXCEPT how many organizations are actually doing this, consistently?!? What I can assure you is that you have been employed by more companies that havenā€™t done this than have. Iā€™m willing to bet the farm on it.

Ok, I donā€™t have a farm but if I did, Iā€™d wager it.
šŸ„šŸ–šŸ“šŸšœšŸ¤

Take some time to reflect on what your org does really well. Then think about where it has weaknesses or cracks in the foundation. Would any of these habits seal up the cracks in your organization? If so, think through how you could weave this in to solve some of your challenges.

Cheers to a solid close to Q4!!

Tell me something good šŸŽµšŸŽ¶šŸŽµšŸŽ¶

With all that is going on in the world today, this is a weekly opportunity for us to share something good that has happened to us recently. Seriously. If you respond to this email, you get me. Iā€™d love to hear from you!

Sadly layoffs are plaguing the US and many are being affected by this. I cannot begin to tell you how many notices I see on LinkedIn each and every day. (It gets goodā€¦I promise)

I try to offer up my network when things like this happen, repost for exposure or tag recruiters that I know but often we never know how it ends up working out. Within the last couple of months, I saw a heartbreaking post of a single Mom who had been laid off and was in pre-foreclosure of her home. She had been out of work for months.

I did the same thing and reposted, tagged people who could potentially help her and got no bites. I then had an amazing friend in my network reach out to me to share that he spends a fraction of his month helping people out with no strings attached. He happens to have a recruiting business. They got connected and she was grateful but feeling pretty hopeless. In the previous few weeks, she had several offer for roles that had been rescinded before she could even start due to budget cuts. She started packing up her house for the inevitable to come. But this recruiter happened to know of an opening that some of her combined skills would have her be a top candidate for.

She drove 4 hours for an in person interview and they made her an offer on the spot. Yā€™all this is what is referred to as ā€œDivine Interventionā€. Not only was this role going to be a much needed financial boost, but it was a dream role for herā€¦.AND she is going to be able to save her home.

This didnā€™t happen by coincidence. I told her sometimes when we feel the most hopeless is when He shows up and completely restores it AND us!!

Challenge for the week: Pick 1 or do both:

  1. Offer up your network to someone who was laid off. Tag recruiters you may know or companies where they hope to work. You never know what kind of connections can be made by someone seeing your post.

  2. Pay attention to these ā€œopen to workā€ posts when you have an open position or know someone who does. Actively try to fill your open roles with folks who are in need.

Making someone else smile is contagious enough to cause a smile on your face as well. When you smile, your brain releases dopamine, endorphins and serotonin. These neurotransmitters are associated with lowering your anxiety and increasing feelings of happiness. That is a win-win!

A quote that I've been sitting with this week:

ā

ā€œThe most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.ā€
