Evoke Greatness Weekly Newsletter

Make it an amazing week, friend!

July 11th, 2023

I took a few weeks off this summer to spend with my kiddos and take a family road trip….but I’m baaaaack! 😎

Spent some solo time with my boys when the other was away at church camp. Maybe you’ve seen some of our shenanigans on LinkedIn or IG?!?

Riding couch cushions down the stairs or playing at the trampoline park to name a few.

We also packed up our trailer and headed to cooler weather in Lake Tahoe for a week with the whole fam. It didn’t disappoint. Talk about beauty…wow! The lush forests and emerald waters were incredibly breathtaking. We saw bears our first two days there. This little cub was playing in the creek. Thankfully we didn’t run into Momma.

We went fly fishing (I didn’t think I would love it, but I absolutely did and so did the boys!!)

And we watched one heck of a firework show over the water.

As I checked the weather app on our way home from the beautiful 70’s Tahoe temps…this is what I saw. What in the actual hell?!?

We haven’t burst into flames yet, so there’s that. This is what we get living in Arizona. 3 months of absurdly hot weather to have 9 months of heaven. We’ll take it.

Has not “feeling ready” ever stopped you from doing something?

Have you ever been fearful to do something because you thought you might be bad at it?

I sat on the “secret dream” of wanting to start a podcast for over a year.

This was my brain’s narrative🫣

Who am I to do this?

What would I say?

Who would actually listen?

Would I sound like a complete idiot?

What if I mess up or say the wrong thing?

What if people hate it?

What if the reviews are terrible?

How would I ever get a guest to come on?

I finally decided to pull the trigger as I had come to a place of realization that I was willing to suck until I had the experience under my belt to get better. I was willing to learn everything I could and I literally started with googling “how to start a podcast”…I know, genius wasn’t it?!? 🤔

I figured episode 5 would far exceed 1-4, 10 would be way better than 5 and so I recorded my 1st episode and pushed publish before I could change my mind.

There is something powerful in the gift of sharing peoples stories. It is something I deeply enjoy. I am incredibly curious and have leaned into that as an adult.

I embarked on this journey in August of 2021. For most of this time, it was a hobby I did in my spare time as I was the COO of a national hospice company and a wee bit busy with those responsibilities.

As I look at my stats today, my podcast, Evoke Greatness, has been listened to in 44 countries.

44 COUNTRIES!

(pause for dramatic effect) 🤣

As I’ve previously shared, I’ve seen a theme lately of people not taking action on their idea, goal, or dream because they don’t feel “ready”.

I want you to remember that you will probably never be 100% ready, or at least feel that way.

“Cemeteries are full of unfulfilled dreams... countless echoes of 'could have' and 'should have'… Don’t choose to walk the well-worn path to regret.”-Steve Maraboli 🤯 (Reading this still gives me the chills…)

I hope that you can see yourself a little in my story and that it stirs something in you to take action.

Even if it’s a baby step.

Someone in the world is waiting for you to execute on your idea, and friend, I am rooting for you!

The Importance of Self Reflection

How often do you take the time for self refection, self awareness and learning from your experiences? My guess is not enough.

I say that with experience. Our lives are probably busier today than they’ve ever been. Careers, personal lives, kids, kids activities, second jobs, school…the list could go on and on. Here are 5 reasons why self reflection is important when it comes to personal development:

1. It helps identify strengths and weaknesses: By reflecting on our thoughts, actions, and emotions, we can identify areas where we excel and those that need improvement. Where do you want to get better? You get to decide where it makes the most sense to spend your time and effort in these areas.

2. It promotes self-awareness: Self-reflection allows us to understand how our behavior impacts others and how we can adjust our actions to achieve better outcomes. Having self-awareness is basically like having a super power.

3. It promotes personal growth: By acknowledging areas where we need improvement, we can acquire new skills and knowledge that help us grow as individuals. Refinement is a beautiful thing!

4. It helps in decision-making: Self-reflection allows us to consider our values, beliefs, and goals, which can inform our decision-making processes. Where is your north star leading you?

5. It enhances emotional intelligence: By reflecting on our emotions, we can learn to regulate them effectively, which can improve our relationships and overall well-being. It also allows us to be more in tune with our “gut feelings” and intuition.

A quote that I've been sitting with this week:

“If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”
