Why Do People Stay The Same When They Are Made For So Much More?

If you’re anything like me…this one punched you in the gut a little bit.

Why?

Because I have been guilty of it. Wanting, even deeply desiring more but doing nothing to propel myself forward.

The biggest reason is simply a fear of failure. People may choose to stay the same because they are afraid of failing if they try something new or different. This is followed by being too comfortable with where they currently are. Think about the frog in pot of warm water. It doesn’t jump out because it isn’t put into shockingly cold or hot water, rather it gets comfy in the warm water. Maybe even a little sleepy. What it doesn’t realize is that it is on it’s way to being boiled.

An article in PsychCentral shared “Your personality is shaped by a dynamic relationship between your interactions, temperament, and environments. Change is possible.

What does it mean for a person to change? Change is a sustained reinforcement of new behaviors and thinking patterns.

Changing who you are or how you behave may be possible through a collective understanding of attitudes, habits, behaviors, and personality traits.”

It comes down to choosing to think and act differently.

How can you reframe the discomfort of change to be something that you can look forward to?

One way to do this is to focus on the positive aspects of change. For example, change can bring new opportunities, experiences, and growth. By embracing change, we can learn new skills, meet new people, and discover new passions.

Another way to reframe the discomfort of change is to view it as a challenge or to gamify it. Challenges can be exciting and motivating, and they can help us to push ourselves out of our comfort zones. By gamifying change, you can approach it with a sense of curiosity and excitement, rather than fear and resistance.

Transform the discomfort of change into something that you can look forward to with anticipation and excitement.

Tell me something good 🎵🎶🎵🎶

With all that is going on in the world today, this is a weekly opportunity for us to share something good that has happened to us recently. Seriously. If you respond to this email, you get me. I’d love to hear from you!

We live in a time when the world is so rich with information, it makes learning and growing easier than ever. Did you know that you can watch a class or even take courses online from MIT for FREE?

How cool is that?

I watched a class this week from Prof. Henry Patrick Winston called “How to Speak”.

Quality = (K + p + t)

Knowledge + practice + inherent talent

Do you notice the size difference in those words? Knowledge is the biggest factor and talent is the smallest. He goes on to say that “…Your success in life will be largely determined by your ability to speak, your ability to write, and the quality of your ideas. In that order.” I went on to take 3 pages of notes and was engaged as if I were sitting in the classroom with him learning firsthand. I took in new tactics about speaking and presentations. The class was 1 hour and 3 min long. Time well spent.

What a time it is to be alive! Are you taking advantage of all of the resources you have at the click of your mouse? We have books, podcasts, YouTube, and so many other resources that are accessible FOR FREE.

Challenge for the week: Pick 1 or do both:

  1. Think of something that you’ve been wanting to learn. Go online and watch a video about it. Try putting it into practice.

  2. If you know how to do something that you think others may not, record a video and post it online. You never know, you may be the next video someone watches to learn how to do that exact thing.

Don’t just be a consumer in the world. Do your part to give back and share the good that you have been blessed enough to learn to do.

A quote that I've been sitting with this week:

“The magic that you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding”
