Distractions: The Silent Dream Killers!šŸ˜£Ā

Ed Mylett recently did an podcast episode on the hidden enemies of successā€¦The 4 Dā€™s

  1. Discouragement

  2. Doubt

  3. Delusion

  4. Delay

ā€¦I decided to add one more to the list that is definitely an enemy of successā€¦

  1. Distraction

In a world buzzing with notifications, distractions are the thieves of our time, silently derailing us from our personal and professional paths. Every ping, every buzz, every beep, is a potential detour from our journey to greatness.

Leaders, take note: mastering self-discipline is your first act of leadership. It sets the stage for guiding others. By shielding our focus, we not only preserve our trajectory but also light the path for those we lead.

Here are 3 mini-hacks for protecting your focus:

  1. Turn on ā€œDo Not Disturbā€ on your device.šŸ“µ It blocks the notifications from buzzing or pinging through to you. Start with baby seps. Turn it on for 15-30 minutes each morning when you are working on your most important tasks. It will allow you uninterrupted time to focus. ***Gamify the process. I turn this on when I am doing my Devotional and journaling in the morning and donā€™t allow myself to check socials, emails, or texts until Iā€™m done. I then ā€œrewardā€ myself and can go check those things once Iā€™ve completed it.

  2. Begin calendar blocking your time. šŸ—“ļø Allocate fixed blocks of time for specific tasks or activities, and stick to them religiously. Use a planner or digital calendar to visually map out your day, dedicating chunks of time for deep work, meetings, and breaks. This structure not only enhances productivity but also clarifies when you're available and when you're in focus mode. As you get more comfortable with this, revert to #1 when you are in ā€œdeep workā€ mode and turn on DND.

  3. De-clutter your workspace. šŸ§¹ There is nothing more satisfying than going to your workspace and having it be clean and organized. Research shows that working in a cluttered space has a negative impact on your focus. It increases anxiety and stress, makes it more difficult to make informed and timely decisions, and impedes your creativity. SO CLEAN IT UP!!

Embodying a champion mindset isn't just about the big wins; it's about conquering the small, daily battles against things like distractions. Leading by example can show your team how to outmaneuver distractions and forge ahead towards your shared goals.

Are you brave enough to turn off your notifications for part of your day to reclaim your focus and set a new standard in leadership? šŸ˜‰

Something worth watching:

When someone tells you itā€™s ā€œimpossibleā€.

Yā€™allā€¦the way this team executes on every block for a 104 yard kickoff return touchdown šŸ˜®

Reminds me of when you have that dynamic team culture within a company. Everybody steps up. Not just contributing, but playing at the highest level. The right person intricately weaving in at the precise moment their role matters, individually or as a group. It is truly a thing of beautyā€¦.much like this Duluth team exhibited on the field in this play.

Check out this video.

A quote that I've been sitting with this week:

ā

ā€œItā€™s kind of fun to do the impossible.ā€
